Going to college is a life changing experience, and it would be an absolute travesty to be unprepared for that experience. Having a plan to pack college survival gear is a great way to really enjoy your college years. Getting college survival gear together is not really all that difficult, but you there are things that you need to make sure you have in your dorm to ensure that you are able to both be a good student and have fun.
College Survival GearĀ Top Ten listed in no specific order:
#10.) Desk Lamp – A desk lamp can be an invaluable tool for a college student. Writing papers and doing other types of work late at night can be difficult, especially if you are trying to avoid keeping your roommate awake. A desk lamp will help you to have a personal lighting system that can both serve your needs and not be a nuisance to those who might be wishing for less lighting.
#9.) Alarm Clock – Having an alarm clock is definitely one of the most important tools a college student can have. Waking up can be difficult, especially if you have an early class, you are going to want your clock to have an alarm that you know will wake you up. There are some that have a volume that increases slightly over time after the given time for sounding. This might be the best for those who like to be woken up gradually, and is generally considered a healthier option.
#8.) All purpose cleaner – College students are notorious for not being the cleanest group of people in the world, so depending on how careful you generally are with your messy things it might be a good idea to stockpile some cleaner. Regardless of how much of a klutz you are it is generally a good idea to have some around in case Murphy’s law decides to rear its ugly head.
#7.) Flashlight – Always, always, always bring a flashlight wherever you go. You never know when the power might go out or something else requiring a flashlight might come up.
6.) A printer – Having a printer in your dorm is a must. Even if you have a community printer, it is a good idea to have one in case you need something quickly for a class. Sometimes community printers can get crowded and it would take forever for you to get your item. A personal printer makes it a certainty that you can get your papers on time.
5.) Games – There has to be something to do when you are not doing schoolwork. You could bring board games, video games and various other types of games that can involve groups of people, this can also be a good way to meet new people because you can invite people to play games with you.
4.) Television – Be sure that you have a T.V. in your room. Most colleges have cable you can hook up so you can watch everything from “Monday Night Football” on ESPN to your favorite episodes of “Mythbusters” on the Discovery Channel.
3.) Air Freshener – College students might also not be the best smelling people in the world, and even if you are not a generally smelly person, you most likely don’t know whether or not your roommate is or not.
2.) Ramen Noodles – Unless you have a meal plan, there is probably no better friend to the college student than the Ramen Noodle. They are cheap, easy to fix, and they don’t taste too terrible. Always have some in the dorm.
